The 10U Elite Texas Roughrider team was one of eighteen teams registered to play in the 11U Select Nations World Series Tournament at Ford Park. Opening Ceremonies were held on Tuesday morning and the guys enjoyed trading pins at the event!
Preston Johnson, Clay Jenkins, Brody Bennett, Matthew Mendoza, Paxton
Packman, Peyton Leon, Evan Whitehead, Ryan, and Corbin Chandler
Ryan and Brody made their way through the crowd of teams!
The fun times weren't reserved for the big boys. I had a great time with my buddy, Preston's little brother, Carson Johnson!
With a bag full of pins, Ryan was ready to PLAY World Series BaseBALL!!
Later that evening, the Roughriders faced Varsity Baseball of Lake Charles, LA. The boys played a great game, but couldn't seem to fully recover from a grand slam that was hit against them early in the game. The final score was 8-6.
The next day, the Roughriders played strong against Xplosion Baseball of Katy, TX (losing 8-7), but fell very short when they faced the Trinity Bay Mud Cats of Baytown, TX (losing 10-0). We enjoyed being the "official scorekeepers" that day and even though they lost, we were proud of the Roughriders for holding their heads high as they were reminded that they must fight for every play, every hit, and hang on to every pitch, in every game that they play.
That evening after the games, the teams gathered to eat pizza together, visit with each other, and most importantly, support their teammates as they participated in the skills competitions!
Ryan competed individually in the Accuracy Throw Competition. He did a fantastic job, placing 13th out of approximately 50 competitors, most of which were playing as true 11 year olds. Ryan also competed in the Around the Horn Competition with three of his teammates. The boys did not place, but they did a great job. Ryan supported his teammates who sprinted around the bases in the Speed Competition and was thrilled to watch a couple of his teammates hit home runs in the Home Run Competition! All of these boys were wonderful competitors... they performed in front of a large crowd, and battled against boys who had a solid year of age and baseball experience under their belts!
We proudly wore our Roughrider green as the boys played their final two games of the tournament. We watched some and we played some!!
The team experienced an 8-6 loss against the Atascocita Aces; and then fell short to the Gladiators. After holding on to a 5 inning lead, the Gladiators went ahead 6-5 in the final inning. Both losses were very disappointing since the boys truly could have won either (or both) game(s)! Honestly, through the entire tournament, only one game truly got away from them. All of the other games could have ended in Roughrider VICTORY! That is not an upsetting performance for a group of 10 year old boys giving it "a go" at a higher level of play! Interestingly enough, the first team that the Roughriders played, Varsity Baseball, won the entire tournament... a team that outscored the Roughriders by only two runs won the whole thing. I think that says a lot for our Texas Roughriders!
We are proud of the 10U Elite Texas Roughriders for a wonderful season. We have loved every riveting minute of play and we are looking forward to the enjoyment that the next Roughrider season will bring our way!!
We love our #11 - Ryan Bell! You are such an inspiration to your brothers. We will follow your lead!!
